Christmas in the Country

Christmas is my absolute favorite time of year. I love everything from the joy of anticipation, baby Jesus, family, Hallmark movies, cold weather, Christmas music, carols, magic, Santa, snow, Christmas trees, candies, excitement, Christmas lights, reindeer….I could go on forever!!!

There is something truly special about this holiday that I look forward each year.

This year, I started watching Hallmark Christmas Movies in November.  By Christmas Day, I had 61 of these movies recorded on our DVR! I know, I know…but I can’t help it!  It’s an addiction!

Rodney put Christmas lights on the house. This is the first time I’ve been able to put lights on my house and it was so much fun!

Oreo, our cat, decided to help Rodney put up the lights.  He climbed the ladder and walked around on the top of the roof.

My grandmother and I went to a tree decorating class where we learned how to professionally decorate a Christmas. I would have to say that my Christmas tree doesn’t look too shabby!

We had Christmas with my mom’s side of the family the day before Christmas Eve. It is a blessing for all of us to have fun and be together. We ate mouthwatering Beef Tenderloin! Hmmm!!!

After we ate, we exchanged gifts and played games.

Christmas Eve

We spent Christmas Eve with both mine and Rodney’s family. We went to my father in-law’s house that afternoon.  We brought gifts, met Shelly’s family and enjoyed our time together. That evening, we went to my grandmother’s house. We played games and waited for Santa.

In our community, the Fire Department and EMS get together and go around to everyone’s home on Christmas Eve.  When it gets dark, Santa comes to visit everyone on the fire truck and ambulance. Santa gives each child a gift in person and wishes them a Merry Christmas!  I have special memories of this from when I was a little girl. My great-grandfather, Daddy Jack, would stand outside waiting for Santa to come to his house. When he showed up, I would be very nervous and excited at the same time. Once Santa handed out a present to all the kids, everyone would leave and it would be time for us to go to bed!  As we fell asleep, we were excited with anticipation waiting for Santa’s return!  This year, he came again! Here is a picture of Santa with my Grandmother and Mama Jo.

We left Santa cookies and milk before we went to bed!

Christmas Day

Santa came to our house!

My family came to see what Santa brought them for Christmas!  Then, we exchanged gifts with one another.

A funny thing happened as we were opening gifts! My grandmother gave my mom a poncho for Christmas.  When grandmother opened her gift, she realized that my mom had given her the same exact poncho 2 days ago!

Santa brought me the cutest shirt!

After we opened presents, we went to church together!  Jesus is the Reason for the Season!   It was a beautiful church services.  It is refreshing to be able to rejoice, sing, and celebrate Jesus Christ on Christmas Day!  We are members of a great church and are extremely thankful!

The rest of the day was spent enjoying family, playing games and eating great food!
