A Tribute To My Mother

When I think back on memories with my mom growing up, so many memories come to mind.

My early memories are being in my moms arms while she would rock me to sleep. I knew I was safe, and loved the comfort of my mom being right there. I could hear the beat of her heart and her sweet scent as she rocked away.

When I was sick, my mom would sit me on the kitchen counter to give me my medicine. I vividly remember a pink medicine that tasted like bubble gum, but I did not like it because it was “medicine.” I would throw it in the floor or pour it down the drain because I refused to take it as it tasted bad! My mom would get so mad at me and when she finally forced it in my mouth, she would blow in my face to make me swallow it. I remember those days like it was yesterday.

My mom was a stay at home mom when I was a child. We spent all day-everyday together and I knew she would always protect me and care for me. When I would get hurt the first persons name I always screamed out was “MOMMY” because she was my comforter. She knew how to heal my pain- if it was a kiss on a hurt knee, or neosporen or a bandaid on a cut.

Church has always been important to my mom. We went every time the doors were open. She played the piano at church and I would sit a few rows back watching her play. As a child there would be times during the service that I would walk up to her and ask her a question while she was playing. She would tell me to sit down and I didn’t understand why because at home she would talk to me while she was playing!

My mom would play the piano in the house and it would be special each and every time hearing the her musical creations. It was beautiful and still is to this day. I remember her giving piano lessons to so many people growing up. It was always fun having people in and out of our house.

When my class was getting ready to go to lunch on my first day of kindergarten, I got my backpack on and was ready to walk out the door. My teacher, Miss McCarthy, asked me where I was going. I told her “I am going to go eat lunch with my mom. We eat lunch together ever day”. She laughed and explained to me that I had to eat with my classmates during school. My heart was broken!

As I got older my mom was still there by my side supporting me in everything I did. She was my biggest cheerleader. She helped in every school function I was apart of and went above and beyond with a smile on her face.

When I went to college it was the hardest thing to that point in my life to say by to her. She was three hours away and I was scared to death. She told me over and over that everything was going to be just fine and this new chapter in my life would be wonderful. She was always a phone call away, and hearing her voice made me feel comfort all over again. If she was busy and I needed to talk she would stop what she was doing to make sure that she was there to take care of me.

When I started dating she was always there to listen to everything. If it was exciting stuff, or fun things, or if my heart was broken she was right by my side encouraging me that everything was going to be ok.

When I met my husband she was there to tell all of my wonderful stories about this great new man in my life. She told me that she had prayed my entire life for my husband and I know that she did because God blessed me with a man that is far too good for me and I thank God everyday for him and I thank my mom for praying over him my whole life. Knowing that she prayed for so many years still makes my eyes tear up. I got to experience all the fun things of planning a wedding with her and I am so thankful for that!

I look forward to many more memories with my mother. I love her more than words could express and I am blessed to have her in my life.
